While we have an airport to escape if we need to we rarely want to leave as we live where most people come to vacation. Life here is slow and gentle, families love it, and outdoor people are our people. While we’ve earned the nickname “Cancelgar” due to the valley we live in, we rarely want to leave anyway.

The City also supports the Kootenay Gallery of Art, established back in 1972 the Gallery boasts the most rotating exhibits in the area, and yearly fundraisers. Castlegar is also home to a vibrant and unique community of Doukhobour people who have played a significant role in shaping the history and culture of this region.
